reading this book was one of the most revelating experiences i've ever had with the written word. fitting too since it deals precisely with the human phenomenon of the written word, its unbounded achievements and its colossal (and somewhat startling) down-side. the ideas put forth in this book are not widely accepted (to say the least) they are renegade and controversial, but to me the ring of truth was so deep and resonant that the reverberations have affected the whole of my thinking. Shlain is a man of rare perception and his book “art and physics” i also found to be fascinating and credible but it is "the alphabet versus the Goddess" that contains the spark of feminist insight that picks up where some of the great feminist philosophers of our time left off.

In A Different Voice

it’s hard for me to even remember the impossibly young ani who first encountered this book back in 1991, but i do remember the effect it had on me! in this book i encountered the first scientific explanation i’d ever received for feeling like a square peg in a round hole my whole life.
through the lens of psychology Gilligan illuminates the hidden otherness of the female mind in patriarchal society. i consider “in a different voice” essential (and utterly fascinating) reading for anyone seeking to understand the fundiments of feminism…or even just the interplay of the masculine and feminine natures within ourselves.
