“One Step in the Right Direction” symbolizes the choice and strength to move forward, even when you feel stuck in life. While comparison is the thief of joy (Theodore Roosevelt), it is often where we end up when questioning our decisions.
Clark shares:
“Feeling behind in the timing of life is a very common yet difficult experience. I'm finding a more helpful perspective.
Every step, no matter how small or delayed it may seem, is progress. Release the doubts, regrets and fears, and enjoy the ride.”
After kicking off the Evanston Folk Festival on “The Music of Tracy Chapman” Tribute show on September 6th, Clark has numerous festival and headline shows on the calendar. She performs at AmericanaFest in Nashville on September 19th at the Outlaw Queer Country event and on September 20th at Chickie Wah Wah: New Orleans to Nashville. Clark’s album release show is October 5th at the Dew Drop Inn in New Orleans.

With this impressive debut, Joy Clark firmly establishes her presence and impact within the broader Americana community. She has performed on some of the most prestigious stages in the world, including The Ryman in Nashville, The Kennedy Center in Washington DC, and the celebrated New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. She has played numerous times with Grammy-winning artist Allison Russell, who offered Clark a regular spot in her backing band The Rainbow Coalition, which led to appearances with Brandi Carlile and the Indigo Girls.
